Xperia X10 Available Now on AT&T!

Posted: August 16, 2010 in Xperia X10

After a long wait for anyone following this phone, the Sony Xperia X10 android phone has landed on AT&T.  If you haven’t heard anything about this phone yet, it does have a few impressive hardware aspects.

The phone has a 1GHZ Snapdragon processor, 4″  TVT LCD screen, 8 GB of on-board memory, a pre-installed 2 GB microSD card, and an 8-megapixel camera. This would seem to put this phone in the running with the Droid X and Droid 2 out of the gate right?  Well not so fast.  This phone is shipping with Android 1.6!  Yes the “Donut” version.  Forget Eclair, and don’t even think about Froyo, as this thing has a LOT of catching up to do right out of the gate. The saving grace for this phone is the fact that it’s running Sony’s Timescape and Mediascape UI’s.  That saving grace however has been noted to have some bugs and lag when using it’s features.  (It pulls all your contacts in a floating card layout on the screen for example.  Although visually pleasing, it’s said to really tax the phone and slow it down.)

The other option you have with this phone already, is it has been rooted and the open development community is looking into having custom roms and getting rid of the custom Sony overlay and apps, which also means you could see 2.2 (Froyo), or at the very least 2.1 (Eclair) on this device soon.

Is anyone on AT&T interested in one of these devices?  It can be yours for $149.99 with a new 2 year contract.
