So with all the buzz about the leaked copy of Froyo over the weekend, and a lot of people nervous to take the plunge, they might have very well missed their chance before the OTA update arrives now that Motorola has plagued the internet sites hosting the update with cease and desist orders.

With that, if you missed out but still want to grab the nice new lock screen from the Froyo update on the Droid X we have you covered!

This is for root users only! This also requires pushing the file using ADB so you must have that setup and working already.

Note:  This involves changing/replacing your framework-res.apk file which is a known risk for getting stuck at the lovely M logo upon boot.  If this were to happen you would need flash an SBF file back to stock.  We have a guide for that in case you do, but keep in mind with all the cease and desist letters mirrors are constantly being taken down.

So to get the update unlock screen, simply download the following file: framework-res.apk

Once downloaded, copy it to the root of your SDcard.

Now plug in your phone via USB and have it in PC Mode.

Open a command prompt window on your PC.

Change the directory to where your SDK is installed.

Run ADB Shell by typing “ADB shell” without the quotes and hitting enter.

Access SU rights by typing “su” without the quotes and hitting enter.

Mount the system as writable with the following command “mount -o remount,rw -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system” (again, without quotes)

Copy over the file from your SDcard  with the following command “cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework” (Once again, without quotes)

Now mount the system back as read only using the following command “mount -o remount,ro -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system” (you guess it, without quotes)

Now simply type “reboot” (last time….without quotes) and your phone will reboot.

Once it boots back up you should have the 2.2 lock screen!
