Update your Incredible to 2.2 With Official update.zip

Posted: August 31, 2010 in Incredible

Droid life was given a nice little leak this morning.  The download link, directly from Google, for the official Froyo update, for the HTC Droid Incredible.

Unlike the last leak we posted last week, this is the true update.zip upgrade for your DI.  This means it won’t wipe it like you have just purchased your phone, it will simply upgrade it while leaving all your apps, settings, and files in tact.

So let’s get you updated!

Note: This is for non rooted 2.1 users only!

  • Start by downloading the update file here:  From Google
  • Once it’s downloaded, rename it to update.zip (THIS IS IMPERATIVE! IT MUST BE NAMED UPDATE.ZIP)
  • Once it’s renamed, copy it to the root of your SD card. (So when you plug-in your phone, if your phone storage shows up as the “E:\” drive on your computer, then the file should end up at “E:\update.zip”)
  • Now that you have update.zip on your SD card, unplug your phone from your PC and power it down.
  • Press and hold the volume down and power buttons at the same time to boot into HBOOT.
  • When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
  • Press the power button to select “RECOVERY.”
  • When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the volume up and power button at the same time.
  • Using the volume button, scroll down to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it with the power button.
  • Your phone will now update! This could take anywhere from 10 – 25 minutes so be patient, especially on the first reboot.  We haven’t heard any reports of anyone having problems with this yet.
