Skype Confusion Upsets Users

Skype updated their mobile app last night with a description claiming “simultaneous 3G and wi-fi connection” and although that is technically true, it gave users the impression that they could now make calls over wi-fi, which unfortunately, is not so true.

It seems the update simply allows you to use the Skype application, over 3g, while wi-fi is connected.  So to clarify, you still won’t be using plan minutes, but you will be using your plans data.  The only difference here is if you have wi-fi enabled when you open the app, you will now have the option to still place calls, but again, it will turn on and use the 3g data service if you initiate this.

Hope this helps to clear up any confusion.
