Users of the HTC Incredible, Evo 4G, or other HTC Android phones can now enjoy the world of one touch rooting, thanks to Unrevoked.

This was released last night via their website, but initially pulled after some issues with the Evo4G, however it should be back up by now.  So if you own an Incredible, Evo 4G or other HTC Android device and have been holding off on rooting, now is your chance to safely and easily join in the fun.

(please note when we say issues with the Evo caused it to get pulled, it simply wasn’t successfully rooting it from what I understand, I do know it was not bricking or damaging phones, so no worries there.)

There are a few steps you want to make sure you perform before doing this to ensure an easy rooting process:
(From XDA)

1. Windows users MUST install the HBOOT drivers for this to work: http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/do…driver_install
2. Windows users need to uninstall HTC Sync or any other program that might talk to the phone over USB (doubletwist, etc). Disabling HTC Sync from the system tray is not enough. They interfere with the root process and will cause problems.
3. When asked for USB connection type, select “Charge Only” and “Remember this”.

Once those steps are complete, head on over to the Unrevoked website and grab the right download for your phone!

Anyone interested in grabbing a Droid 2 for 89.99 with a new contract, upgrade, or added line?  How about a HTC Droid Incredible for 69.99 on contract, upgrade, or a new line?  Well if that sounds too good to be true, thank your local Sears for the great deal.  Probably one of the last places I would ever look to buy a cell phone is now selling these phones, for these ridiculously low prices.  Sure beats Verizon’s $200 price tag.

If you were on the fence about getting any Droid phone from Verizon, I think this is more than a good enough excuse to pull the trigger.  The best part is you can get this all online so you don’t have to actually go to a Sears store.  (I’m not sure you could even buy them in the store if you tried?)

Grab one up while you can!

Well I didn’t see this one coming.  According to Androiddoes.net, starting tomorrow (9/2) you can go into Verizon, buy almost any smartphone, and activate it on a pay-as-you-go plan.  Pictured above is the list of devices that will be allowed to be used for this plan type.  Below you can find the pricing comparison between different pay as you go offerings from other networks.

This is a great way for someone with bad credit, no credit, or simply might not be old enough to get mom or dad to sign a 2 year contract for them.  If you think you can foot the bill, but just couldn’t find a way to get in before, this is your chance.  As you can see from the list, you can grab any of the popular Droid series phones, as well as BlackBerry’s and other’s.  Also note if you happen to have one of these lying around from a recent upgrade, used phones can be activated on one of these plans as well.

Droid life was given a nice little leak this morning.  The download link, directly from Google, for the official Froyo update, for the HTC Droid Incredible.

Unlike the last leak we posted last week, this is the true update.zip upgrade for your DI.  This means it won’t wipe it like you have just purchased your phone, it will simply upgrade it while leaving all your apps, settings, and files in tact.

So let’s get you updated!

Note: This is for non rooted 2.1 users only!

If you were too nervous to jump on board this morning with the leaked Froyo update for the Incredible, then you might not have to wait long to get it anyway.  Droid-life.com received a screen shot from Verizon’s system showing the Froyo update is going live OTA on August 27th.  Yep, tomorrow!

So if you can’t wait for the OTA rollout, got a head and grab it here, and update now.  Or if you don’t mind waiting a day or so, you can wait until you see that nice message pop up on your phone asking you to install the update!

Enjoy!

Androidcentral.com has traced a source to get your hands on the official Froyo build for the HTC incredible.  This isn’t a port or custom rom, it’s apparently the real deal.

I don’t have an incredible to personally test on, but reading through the comments on androidcentral.com it seems there are plenty of success stories of end users updating perfectly fine.

This method comes packaged as a desktop executable, that you run from your computer while your phone is plugged in.  It seems to make it a pretty simple process.  If you’re rooted, this has to be done manually however, and the steps for that are outlined below.

Droid-life.com is reporting some of their followers sending in tips that they’ve been able to swap out there defective Droid 1 and Droid Eris for a Droid 2 or Droid Incredible.  They also make note to point out this is a straight warranty exchange, not an insurance claim.  So no deductibles involved here, pretty much a completely free upgrade.

I’m not one to promote insurance fraud or essentially do something you aren’t entitled to be doing, but I know of a few buddy’s I work with that I’m passing this news on to.  How can you turn down a completely upgraded phone for absolutely free?

Now they do say the people who were able to do this were on their 3rd or 4th refurbished device at this point so it may not be a first time deal if you’ve never had issues with your phone, but if you have had to send it back a few times already, I would definitely look into seeing if you could just get a free upgrade.

We should make it clear, as they did on Droid-life.com, that you cannot go out and physically break your phone and expect to swap it out, that would be an insurance claim.  A warranty swap is for when the device isn’t function properly and you did nothing to cause it.
